SlumberPod, inventors and makers of blackout privacy sleep pods for babies and toddlers, announced today they are a recipient of the Good Design Award, recognized as the world’s most prestigious and oldest Design Awards program.
SlumberPod co-founders and mother-daughter team, Lou Childs and Katy Mallory, worked with Creature, LLC, an Atlanta-based firm, on prototyping and product design.
“Creature Product development has been a wonderful partner for us,” said Mallory. “Customers consistently comment on SlumberPod's smart design. Specifically, that our product is roomy inside but folds up small when not in use, is sturdy, is easy to set up and — most of all — helps their little one sleep well when away from home. We appreciate Creature designing a product that has improved so many families' lives.”
Creature’s Principal Maureen Carroll considered working with Lou and Katy on the SlumberPod design a “truly rewarding experience.” She shared, “They were clear on the functional needs of the product, and trusted our team to create a design solution. Our focus was on making the design work for traveling parents; it needed to fit in a carry-on bag and offer easy setup for one person in a hotel room. It took several prototype iterations to get it right, and we are proud of the simple, modern end-result. It was so refreshing to collaborate with entrepreneurs who were passionate about their product and weren't afraid to invest in good design.”
Founded in 2016, SlumberPod has helped more than 12,000 families travel with less stress and more rest. Recently, they appeared on Shark Tank Season 11 and received a deal from Barbara Corcoran.
The Good Design Awards Program is organized by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies. SlumberPod was a recipient in the Children’s Products category for 2019.
